Assessment

ACCESS for ELLs Online Test Administrator Training (½ day)

During this training, test administrators explore how the WIDA Standards and Assessment System is connect to the ACCESS for ELLs Online. Participants will learn to administer the online test to students. All participants must have computers or tablets and an internet connection to access sample items and the WIDA Assessment Management System.

ACCESS for ELLs Paper Test Administrator Training (½ day)

During this training, test administrators will explore how the WIDA Standards and Assessment System is connected to the ACCESS for ELLs Paper. Participants will learn how to administer and monitor the group sections of the tests and there will be a focus on administering and scoring the speaking section of the assessment.

Interpreting ACCESS for ELLs Score Reports for Instruction

The ACCESS for ELLs Score Reports provide specific information on students’ academic English language proficiency. During this training, participants will explore how the WIDA Standards and Assessment System is connected to the ACCESS for ELLs score reports. Participants will examine the different types and uses of score reports. They will also make connections between the students’ proficiency scores and WIDA Performance Definitions.

Kindergarten ACCESS for ELLs Test Administrator Training (½ day)

This training is designed for test administrators of the Kindergarten ACCESS for ELLs. During this training test administrators will explore how the WIDA Standards and Assessment System is connect to Kindergarten ACCESS for ELLs in its unique test design. Participants will learn to administer and score the Kindergarten assessment. It is suggested that participants bring Kindergarten MODEL kits to the training, if possible.

WIDA AMS for Screener (1/2 Day)

This training focuses solely on how to navigate WIDA AMS for administering and scoring the WIDA Screener Online. During this training, participants will work collaboratively to strengthen their understanding of the functions in WIDA AMS for the administration and scoring of Screener Online. Participants will practice all operations required in WIDA AMS to administer and score the WIDA Screener Online using sample accounts and sample students.

WIDA MODEL Online Test Administration (1 full day)

This training is for test administrators of the WIDA MODEL (Measure of Developing English Language) Online. The WIDA MODEL is a series of English language proficiency assessments for Kindergarten through Grade 12. However, Kindergarten MODEL is only available in a paper kitformat. Educators can use MODEL as an identification /placement assessment for newly enrolled ELLs or as an interim progress monitoring assessment. Participants will learn how to administer, monitor, and score as applicable each language domain in the assessment.

WIDA MODEL Online Test Administration Webinar Series

This WIDA MODEL training webinar series is for educators who are preparing to administer the WIDA MODEL Online assessment for grades 1-12. WIDA MODEL can be used as an identification/placement assessment for newly enrolled ELLs or as an interim progress monitoring assessment. During this training, participants will learn how to administer and score each of the four domain assessments as well as how to navigate and perform key functions in the MODEL Online Test Administrator Interface.

WIDA Screener: Online Test Administration (1 full day)

During this training, participants will work collaboratively to strengthen their understanding of the administration of WIDA Screener Online. This includes learning to administer the online assessment to students. Particular attention will be given to developing inter-rater reliability when scoring the speaking and writing domains. Participants will utilize a multitude of practice items to be scored with the scoring scales.

WIDA Screener: Paper Test Administration (1 full day)

During this training, participants will work collaboratively to strengthen their understanding of the how to administer the assessment. This includes test administration beginning with the entry task, and then continuing to Path A or Path B. Particular attention will be given to the administration and scoring of speaking and writing sections of the assessment using practice items.

In this bilingual workshop, participants will explore instructional planning for the bilingual classroom through an interactive analysis of instructional practices that elevate and honor emergent bilinguals’ assets.

Engaging English Language Learners in Science (2 full days)

This interactive two-day workshop offers teachers of English Language Learners time to delve into combining English Language Development Standards and Science Practices. In collaborative groups of educators, we will develop a common understanding of academic language in a science and engineering environment.

Formative Language Assessment (2 full days)

This workshop explores formative assessment practices that focus students’ and teachers’ attention on English language development within the context of subject-area classrooms. The purpose is to prepare participants to incorporate new formative language assessment practices into their educational contexts.

Leading Schools for Language Learner Achievement (2 full days)

Educational leaders are key to improving academic language development and academic achievement for multilingual learners. The purpose of this workshop is for school leaders to reflect on their school’s policies and systems in order to craft a personal leadership action plan that promotes equitable educational opportunities for multilingual learners.

Scaffolding Learning through Language

This workshop provides educators with a fresh look at how to engage multilingual learners in rigorous content area learning with a balance of challenge and support. The purpose of the workshop is to encourage educators to consider classroom practices that move multilingual learning forward and upward together within the content of meaningful experiences where learning is mediated through language.

Follow-up Reflection and Action Planning Webinar

This webinar allows participants to reflect on their learning from any WIDA foundational workshops to consider how they have implemented key ideas from that workshop into their current teaching and learning contexts. Participants will consider the strengths and areas of need for their local teaching and learning context and then use that information to develop an action plan and corresponding professional learning goals. The overall goal is for educators to leverage WIDA tools and resources in the development of their action plans, and reflect on best practices that will, in turn, provide equitable instruction for culturally and linguistically diverse students. 

Purposeful Lesson Planning for Language Learners

This webinar is designed to enhance participants’ lesson planning processes. Participants will examine seven essential elements that attend to the needs of English language learners. In particular, participants will focus on creating contexts for meaningful language use within settings that integrate content learning and academic language development.
