Classroom Action Research: Equity for Multilingual Learners (2 1-day workshops)

Equity for Multilingual Learners (MLs) requires teachers to create culturally and linguistically responsive learning environments and facilitate rigorous learning that is appropriately supported. The purpose of this workshop is for teachers to engage in an action research process in order to enhance equitable opportunities for MLs.

Engaging English Language Learners in Science (2 full days)

This interactive two-day workshop offers teachers of English Language Learners time to delve into combining English Language Development Standards and Science Practices. In collaborative groups of educators, we will develop a common understanding of academic language in a science and engineering environment.

Formative Language Assessment (2 full days)

This workshop explores formative assessment practices that focus students’ and teachers’ attention on English language development within the context of subject-area classrooms. The purpose is to prepare participants to incorporate new formative language assessment practices into their educational contexts.

Leading Schools for Language Learner Achievement (2 full days)

Educational leaders are key to improving academic language development and academic achievement for multilingual learners. The purpose of this workshop is for school leaders to reflect on their school’s policies and systems in order to craft a personal leadership action plan that promotes equitable educational opportunities for multilingual learners.

Scaffolding Learning through Language

This workshop provides educators with a fresh look at how to engage multilingual learners in rigorous content area learning with a balance of challenge and support. The purpose of the workshop is to encourage educators to consider classroom practices that move multilingual learning forward and upward together within the content of meaningful experiences where learning is mediated through language.

WIDA Institute – Webinar Series

This institute was created with topics that build on each other so that educators end the week prepared with the tools and resources needed to support their multilingual language learners. Participants will begin the week learning the foundations necessary to differentiate their instruction for the diverse group of students within their classroom and learn more focused ways of approaching learning as the week progresses.
